Episode 149 Jonathan Friesen Mission Group

Jonathan was privileged to have been raised in a small Japanese coastal town on the edge of the Japan Sea during the rapid economic growth of the 1960s.  Having attended boarding school in Tokyo in the 70s and University in Los Angeles in the 80s, Friesen quickly gained a broad perspective, which pointed him in the direction of the business world. After settling in Vancouver in 1983, he began a career in property development by building high-rise communities in the Vancouver downtown core and resorts in the South Seas.  After several years, the Friesen family retired on the island of Grand Cayman and took part in a charitable housing organization.  By 2002, Friesen was ready to move back to British Columbia to reengage with the property development world. The dawn of Mission Group has illuminated many opportunities in Kelowna and the Lower Mainland of Vancouver.  Friesen currently serves in the role of CEO of Mission Group Enterprises.  He is primarily involved in corporate growth strategy, vision and the cultivation of strategic partnerships and financing.

Episode 147 Barry Hartman 505 Junk

Barry Hartman is the Co-Founder and CEO at 505-Junk. Since the company’s inception in June of 2011, Hartman, along with business partner Scott Foran and their outstanding staff, have focused on reducing waste at local landfills and donating reusable goods to local charities. 505-Junk’s mission is to have a significant positive impact on their clients, the environment, and the communities that they serve. 505-Junk will be launching their first three franchisees this year and plans to grow across North America.
Hartman was selected as a Canadian delegate at the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance Summit in Istanbul, Turkey and is very passionate about youth entrepreneurship. Sean Aiken is the creator of The One Week Job Project – an inspiring journey across North America in which he worked 52 jobs in 52 weeks to find his passion. He trekked more than 46,000 miles, slept on 55 couches, raised over $20,000 for charity, and tried every job he could: Bungee Instructor, Dairy Farmer, Advertising Executive, Baker, NHL Mascot, Stock Trader, Firefighter, and more.  Sean’s been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, TIME, Globe & Mail, on CNN, 20/20, The Rachael Ray Show, Good Morning America, MTV, and countless other media outlets around the world. Episode 142 Peter-Paul Van Hoeken FrontFundr

Peter-Paul has over 15 years of experience in finance, investment management, and business consultancy. He’s held multiple senior management positions with global banks including ABNAMRO Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland in the areas of corporate strategy, commercial and investment banking. Peter-Paul has also held management consultancy roles in Europe. Upon relocating with his family to Canada in 2010, Peter-Paul worked as a consultant for several early stage companies and experienced the challenges that they face in attracting capital.
